Dancing at Disneyland

DANCE students from around the central west will tour the United States this month after more than 12 months of preparation.

Around 50 students from Stepping Out Dance Factory in Orange, Dubbo and Forbes auditioned successfully to take part in the tour early last year.

Stepping Out Dance Factory director Leesa Chaseling said the group was looking forward to the trip.

“They are ridiculously excited,” she said. “They will perform jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance pieces, which they have been working on every week for over a year.”

The 17 students from the Orange dance studio, who are aged between 11 and 25, will depart for the trip on  September 21.

Disneyland, Universal Studios, The Edge and Millennium are among the places they will perform.

The students are due to return on October 9, however Mrs Chaseling said many families were extending their trip.

“Heaps of families are extending their trips afterwards and travelling to New York or Hawaii,” Mrs Chaseling said. “There will be over 160 family members joining us.”

Another group of students from Stepping Out Dance Factory went to the States on the same tour in 2008.

Once this group returns, they’ll set their sights on performing in Europe next.

“At the moment we are obviously focusing on the States,” Mrs Chaseling said. “We do want to tour Italy, France and London in the next few years though.”
