THE feud that dogged lane allocations in Orange’s Olympic pool last year won’t be renewed now that the new indoor pool is open.
Orange Aquatic Centre manager Josh Maley said Orange’s two major swim clubs, City of Orange and the Jets, would use the new 25-metre indoor pool harmoniously.
“It’s already sorted out. The City of Orange Swim Club will start training on Monday [today] and then the Jets are kicking off the following Monday,” he said.
“It depends on what day they’re training but the most each club will get is three [lanes] at a time. On their club nights they’ll get four.
“There’s been no issue since I’ve been manager. They’ve all worked well together.”
Late last year council passed a motion based on Swimming NSW recommendations for the clubs to use the pool on a rotational basis, taking turns in the mornings and evenings and training every second day.
The motion was later rescinded after it was deemed to disadvantage too many of the city’s talented young swimmers.
That’s where the feud ended.
City of Orange president Mitch Staniforth said at the time “at the end of the day it’s about the kids and the kids only” and all his club wanted was access to the pool on a daily basis.
Both clubs have now moved on.
Mr Maley said the new pool would be a hit.
The outdoor pool will be operational when the weather heats up in October.
