ORANGE is maintaining its reputation as an abundant source of good cooks after the city was visited by scouts looking for recipes to feature in a new reality television show.
Kam Vurlow, representing Network TEN came to Orange on Saturday and was presented with a range of home-grown goodies, from crunchy granola to cakes, spaghetti bolognese, preserves and jams.
Mr Vurlow said the concept behind the Orange scouting session was to find an original recipe that would appeal to a wide audience and be suitable for supermarket shelves.
“The next step, once we have visited the centres we have chosen, is to create a shortlist and those lucky people will be asked to come to Sydney,” he said.
“What we are looking for are simple home-prepared recipes, and the successful person who makes their way through the rounds will not only win $200,000 but will get a certain percentage of the supermarket sales.”
Tony Luscombe took along his Frog Hollow apricot jam and ruby grapefruit marmalade after family and friends convinced him to put his jams forward.
“I suppose making jam goes back to my grandmother who lived in Adelaide and she always had beautiful fruit trees and made her own jams,” he said.
“I still remember her wonderful fig jam.”
Merle Parish, who has already enjoyed enormous success through her appearances on MasterChef, took along some favourite home grown recipes.
“I decided to bring in my Clyde’s Pudding and Biscuit Cake recipe which was handed down from my mother.
“I’ve also put in a honey kisses recipe,” she said.
“I just thought I would have a go - its not about winning but being a good loser,” she said.
