Mr Monaghan will be joined by his brother Mark among 45 riders who will depart from Capital Harley-Davidson at 10am on Saturday morning for the third annual ride.
It is the first year a contingent of riders will leave from Orange, who will meet another 45 riders from Sydney at the Tarana Hotel, Tarana, approximately halfway between the two locations.
Mr Monaghan said his cousin Scott Monaghan, CareFlight’s relationship revelopment manager, who will be one of the riders leaving from Sydney, was the one who encouraged him to take part in the ride to support the critical care aeromedical retrieval service and charity.
“CareFlight is a great charity, especially out here. For someone who rides quite regularly, it is great to know that there are these people who are there to help you if you get into any trouble,” Mr Monaghan said.
The ride is held in memory of National Service Manager for Harley-Davidson Australia’s Todd Peisley who died in Bali in 2012, despite efforts from CareFlight’s critical care unit, which was flown in to save him.
Organisers estimate more that $6000 will be raised by the ride, through registrations and donations.
Mr Monaghan said the ride had also brought him together with other people who he was unaware of that rode.
“I put the word out to people I knew to help get more people involved. It turns out we’ve got a number of people signed up who I didn’t know rode or had bikes,” he said.
Riders who wish to participate can sign up via https://toddpeisleyride2015.gofundraise.com.au or on the day at Capital Harley Davidson.
Registration costs $35 per rider and $15 per pillion passenger, with a free patch for each entrant.
