The Water Industry Operators Association of Australia’s chief operating officer Craig Mathisen, who is organising the event at Anzac Park’s Sir Neville Howse Stadium, said the water competition was one of the two-day event’s highlights.
“There’s a lot of rivalry between the councils, and that increases every year,” Mr Mathisen said.
“The winner holds the title for 12 months and they get a trophy to hang on their wall.”
Mr Mathisen said while the event had attracted 600 water professionals who work for local councils and other water authorities, people outside the sector would also find the event interesting.
“There are exhibits on all sorts of things like water transportation, odour control and a range of new technology,” he said.
“It might appeal to people like gardeners or plumbers.”
Mr Mathisen said this was the second time Orange had hosted the event.
“Orange is a great place to come, the venues and the facilities are good and we’ve had a lot of support from [Orange City] council,” he said.
“The accommodation and allied services in Orange are also very good and Orange is reasonably central.”
Entry to the exhibition is free to members of the public who are invited to attend between 10am and 4pm today.
