Courallie Park Child Development Centre’s 10th annual Teddy Bears’ Day Out at Cook Park was hit among young and old alike, with face painting, craft activities, market stalls, food and a dance performance entertaining families throughout the morning.
Centre co-ordinator Karen McMullen said she expected around 300 people to have take part in the activities, and said while the event was a fundraiser for the childcare centre, it was more about the children themselves.
“It’s about making preschoolers visible community members, because they’re going to be our future leaders and the ones making the decisions,” Mrs McMullen said.
“There are lots of things for adults and teens, but there isn’t anything for our youngest community members
She said each year the event raised over $1000 for the centre, which is used to purchase equipment for the children and resources for the educators.
“We’re a not-for-profit organisation, and this is our main fundraiser. It’s more about the children, but the money’s a bonus.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their support. It’s really important to us that everyone comes to this event. For us, it’s such a highlight of the year.”
