The 65-square family home sits high on a hill on the family’s eight-acre property, showcasing Mary and Ross Caltabiano’s vision.
The Caltabianos moved into their dream home in August, 1999 and say they’ve loved every moment there since.
“I haven’t got anything I’d change if I built it again,” Mary said.
Ross agrees it’s hard to think of a better location to live.
“We’re very lucky to have lived on Canobolas Road, it’s been a privilege.”
While years were spent planning the tri-level house’s design, even more time was spent designing and planting its impressive garden.
The couple bought the block in 1993 and in 1994 started developing the grounds.
“We planted most of the garden and even put in the garden shed before the house was built,” Mary said.
“A house can go up quickly, but trees take time.”
Over the years the couple have grown a range of fruit and vegetables.
Having already lived in a series of older-style homes the Caltabianos had always dream of building a home to their exacting specifications.
Mary was keen to have a house with large windows highlighting the stunning view outside.
“There isn’t one room in the house which doesn’t have a view. There’s even a window in the laundry,” she said.
It’s not only Mary and Ross who have enjoyed the house, over the years the property has hosted many a family dinner or party, including Christmas.
With entertaining in mind the Caltabianos’ kitchen is large and airy.
The cupboards are made from New Guinea Rosewood and the granite bench tops have proved the perfect place for people to sit and chat to Mary as she cooks.
The fact that the house has four bedrooms, each with an ensuite, and a study that can be used as a fifth bedroom, has proved as big drawcard for visitors.
According to Mary the house’s billiard room, television room, formal dining and lounge room, and open planned kitchen and dining area means there’s plenty of space for visitors to relax.
“A lot of thought went into building this house,” said Mary.
