Atlas Copco won out over several other local businesses for naming rights to the main, $50,000 race, and Racing Orange chief executive Daniel Brincat said with all seven race sponsors locked in, organisation for Orange’s biggest race meet of the year will ramp up substantially.
“The draw really kicks off preparations, now with the official names of sponsors we’ll begin putting our marketing campaigns together and enticing people to head out for the day,” he said yesterday.
“Apart from the quality field and big race program, there’s dining options, function rooms, marquees and really, something for everyone.
“Everything we offer on normal race days, we’ll have.”
Rain marred the meet last year, and Brincat said as a result - assuming Mother Nature is kinder in 2015 - he is expecting a bumper field and massive crowd at Towac Park on Friday, April 10.
“Last year we had it washed out, so hopefully we just get some fine weather,” he said.
“With it falling in school holidays we could get a huge crowd. It is hard to get a gauge on sometimes but interest is certainly already there, which is good considering it’s still five weeks away.”
Considering the entire meet is worth $165,000, Brincat went on to say he would be very surprised if the field wasn’t one of the best to grace Towac in recent memory.
“It was a high benchmark race last year, which included some of the open company horses from the bush, provincial and metropolitan (areas) so I can’t see any reason why they wouldn’t look to chase the $50,000 again,” he said.
“This meet is what we always build towards, you always try and have your Cup day as your feature event.
“We’ve had some good meetings, and quality fields throughout the year, and I think we’ll definitely attract a high quality program again.”
