That is Eva Reith-Snare.
Just a few short weeks after representing NSW Country at the 2015 Softball Australia Regional Championships, Reith-Snare was named in NSW’s under-15 hockey side to contest this year’s national championships in April at the Gold Coast.
She’s represented NSW several times before in both sports, and is also set to play a full-time role in Confederates’ women’s Premier League Hockey side this year.
Not bad for a 13-year-old.
“I don’t have the same reaction as last time, but it’s very exciting, I’m very happy” Reith-Snare said, reflecting on her previous experience with NSW in the under 13s last year.
Reith-Snare dominated the Hockey NSW Country - City Regional Challenge at Newcastle International Hockey Centre two weeks ago, earning the right to represent her state.
“I think it will be very hard, tougher than 13s was,” she said.
“There will be bigger girls and they’ll be much stronger. I’ve been picked as a defender, and I don’t normally play there.”
The 14-year-old will represent NSW from April 11-19 in a side looking to defend its 2014 title.
Reith-Snare isn’t Orange’s only state representative, with Orange Wanderers star Hayden Dillon named in the under-18 NSW Blues team - the state’s second XI.
Dillon was picked after starring for Lithgow at the Hockey NSW State Championships. He linked with Lithgow some years ago when Orange didn’t have a side.
Dillon has remained loyal to his adopted side since but remains a member of Wanderers’ men’s Premier League Hockey side.
This is the second time he will have played for NSW, after playing for his state in under 13s.
“It’s good to be back playing for NSW, it’s exciting to be picked,” he said.
“Really, now that I’m in the Blues team I just want to play well and prove I would be capable of playing the next level up.”
Jack Fleming, formerly of Orange and now Newcastle, was also named in the NSW under-15 team.
