JASMIN Bond is just one of the many hopefuls from Orange who will enter their recipes this weekend for Network Ten’s new program Recipe to Riches.
Ms Bond, owner of Greentrees Gourmet Preserves, will enter either her blueberry jam, mustard pickles, or sweet tomato sauce recipe.
“There is nothing artificial in any of my recipes,” she said.
“That’s where the appeal is I think. Most of the commercial jams and sauces available have artificial preservatives and colours in them.”
Ms Bond has been making jams, jellies, condiments and preserved fruits for over 18 years, and believes using natural, locally grown ingredients is the key.
“People don’t want complicated food,” she said.
“They want simple recipes that are made well.”
Market manager of Orange Region Farmers’ Market Cath Thompson said she wasn’t surprised that Ten was looking for talent in Orange.
“Following the success of Kate Bracks on MasterChef last year, there has been such a growth in interest in food and cooking,” she said.
“Particularly among the young people of the region.”
Ms Thompson believes people should take the opportunity to put their recipes on the market.
“You can enter anything you like,” she said.
“It could be something that appeals to people who like those homemade recipes like a biscuit or slice, or it could be a ready-made meal for those who have busy lives.”
Auditions will be held today from noon to 3pm at the Country Comfort Motel.
