THE first day of spring today is welcome after Orange has shivered through its lowest August morning temperatures in 15 years.
However, today’s cold morning temperatures are a carryover from August with Orange hitting a low of minus 2 degrees overnight.
Orange averages a morning low of 2.1 degrees in August, however with the temperature gauge plummeting several degrees below that temperature on many mornings during August, Orange residents had just cause to feel it was a cold month.
The lowest overnight temperature recorded in August was minus 3.2 degrees compared to the lowest on record of minus 4.2 degrees in 1992.
The coolest temperature in winter was recorded on June 20 when it was minus 3.6 degrees.
Rainfall in August was down compared to the monthly average.
Orange usually receives an average of 99.5mm of rain in August, however last month the city only received half that amount, 45mm.
Tomorrow morning the temperature gauge is set to remain low with minus 3 degrees predicted and minus 1 on Monday.
However, next Wednesday Orange is set to have its first hint of spring with a minimum temperature of 6 degrees and a maximum of 17 degrees.
Today, tomorrow and Monday there is only a slight possibility of rain.
