This weekend in Orange it’s all about sole - and lots of them.

Beginning today and ending tomorrow, over 4000 soles - wrapped up in Nikes, Reeboks, New Balance and, here’s hoping, Volleys - will pound the pavement during the 2015 Orange Colour City Running Festival, numbers that will make this year’s event the largest since it  began in 2007.

The two kilometre dash at Gosling Creek starts from 4pm today, while the 5km, 10km, half marathon and marathon races start tomorrow morning at Bloomfield.

This year’s festival is also attracting big numbers from outside of the city.

Of the expected 2000 entrants, 45 per cent travel from outside the Orange postcode to be part of the two-day running riot.

David Hunter and his kids Luke, 10, Dan, 8, and Phoebe, 6, can’t wait to start.

Their soles are ready.

“Our family moved to Orange six months ago and I’ve heard good things about the running festival,” Mr Hunter said, with all four first-time entrants in the festival.

“It looks like another great Orange community event and we want to be a part of it. 

“Hats off to the organisers who have done a great job in promoting the event - I’ve read this week that numbers are bigger than last year.” 

Road closures will only occur tomorrow morning from 5.30am, with the Forest Road closure starting after the Cadia Road turn-off.
