The Canobolas Rural Technology High School community engagement officer and festival mastermind Vince Lovecchio, will speak about the festival at a public meeting hosted by ECCO tonight, in an effort to find a way to include the organisation in events.
“I’ll leave it up to them [ECCO] to decide what they want to do, work out how we can incorporate them in it,” Mr Lovecchio said.
“That could be in the form of running an event, or an arts-related competition. It’s really all up to them.”
The inaugural festival was held in September last year, and students from schools across the region participated in over 40 different workshops celebrating young people in art and culture.
Mr Lovecchio said he was excited to see something that began as a small idea evolve into a festival that included many different groups across the community.
“The momentum is huge. My intention last year as the first stage was to get the word out there. The feedback has been amazing and now there’s the opportunity to get many other groups on board.”
ECCO publicity officer Neil Jones said the organisation was keen to engage with young people and be part of the festival.
“ECCO recognises the role that the arts can play in portraying environmental issues and stories, and the Youth Arts Festival is a great opportunity to connect with young people,” Mr Jones said.
“Increasing the awareness of environmental issues and sustainability in our community can often be achieved through the actions of our youth.”
The meeting begins at 7.30pm at the Environmental Learning Facility at the Orange Showground. For more information, contact Mr Jones on 0419 224 461.
