Along with the new poems there will be reworking’s of some old favourites, with Orange mayor John Davis planning to recite Clancy of the Overflow and Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson and his son Andy reciting The Man from Ironbark together.
They will face off in the mayoral challenge at 6.15pm.
Twenty-eight poets have signed up to take part in the competition at the Hotel Canobolas ball room from 4.30pm.
The poets have come from across NSW and event organiser David Williams, from the Rotary Club of Orange, said he was thrilled with the response.
“We have entries from places like Empire Bay, Parkes, Binalong, Wollongong and Coopers Shoot as well as closer to home,” Mr Williams said.
The event will start with the juniors at 4.30pm and the committee is encouraging people to go and support the budding poets.
Entry is a gold coin donation.
