It was repeatedly highlighted as Orange’s problem in last year’s disappointing State Tenpin Bowling League campaign, and now Orange faces its first away test of the 2015 season.
With a first up, 64-50 win over Bateau Bay in round one, form is on the board for Orange but winning away from home is crucial if the Warriors are to compete with competition heavyweights Campbelltown, Tenpin City and last year’s champions Shellharbour.
Orange takes on Campbelltown in tomorrow’s second round - one of the toughest road trips on the State League fixtures list.
“We need to improve on our away record from last year,” Orange manager Jason Brown said.
“Campbelltown are tough, but this is the strongest side we’ve put together for an away game in a long time, so I think it will be very close.
“To get a win first up is a big thing, we didn’t get our first one until round five or six last year, so we want to keep building on that as well.”
Brown said adapting to Campbelltown’s oil patterns and lanes in general as quickly as possible was necessary for his Warriors to hold any hope of an upset victory.
“Yeah, that is very important because we can’t drop too many games in the singles,” he explained.
“You get more points in the doubles and teams, but we don’t want to be trying to make them up there because I think it will be so close.”
