Ms Baxter said there was an increase in demand for courses in aged care and the health industry because people realised it was a growing sector with strong prospects of employment at the end of their studies.
“There is a strong demand in welfare work, youth work and early childhood,” she said.
“We’ve known now for a long time about Electrolux [closing]... certainly there has been strong enrolments through Orange last year.”
The fee structure has changed across all education providers as part of the government’s Smart and Skilled roll-out, which means people who did not meet criteria for government subsidised places would have to pay full fees.
“There are still concession fees available for people on pensions or benefits,” she said.
Staff will be available at the information night at the TAFE Western’s Orange College Student Hub to go through the course fees with prospective students.
There is also now an option to pay course fees in instalments in order to “spread the cost”.
Anyone interested is urged to visit the site tonight from 5 to 7or on Saturday from 9 to 11 to meet teachers and careers advisors to enrol before classes start in February.
Ms Baxter said all courses on offer last year were on offer again but whether classes run was subject to demand.
