The SCG XI is the social playing arm of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, and is based on the models of the Marylebone and Melbourne Cricket Clubs, while the Cockatoos are an invitational side put together by Kinross coach Andrew Litchfield several years ago.

The now annual game was moved to Kinross Main Oval to accommodate Wade Park’s resurfacing, and there was fears originally the game would be abandoned after torrential rain on Saturday afternoon.

Instead, it was postponed until later on Sunday morning, and moved to Sally Kennett Oval - Kinross’ back, synthetic field.

Batting first, the Cockatoos posted 250 from their 46 overs, after finding themselves in trouble at 2-18.

Kinross batsman Stuart Crisp (54) steadied the ship, and, with help from Michael Sabotto (48), Phil Dodds (29) and Max Dodds (54 not out), the Cockatoos worked their way to a defendable total.

In reply, the SCG XI could only muster 201, falling 49-runs short of victory.

The SCG side, which included CYMS’ Michael Hannelly, and former green and golds all-rounder Kira Churchland - now playing for the ACT Meteors - lost wickets regularly in the chase, with only Hannelly (50), Anthony Rule (37) and Phil Booth (29) seriously troubling the scorers.

“Kira actually got a golden duck, but that happens,” Litchfield laughed.

“It was a great day, it was great to see them include some young, local players as well.

“We batted well with a couple of nice half-centuries, and restricted them. They were never really in the hunt actually.”

Litchfield said the game has already been scheduled for 2016.

“Definitely, they’re really looking forward to coming back already,” Litchfield said.

“They had a wonderful weekend, and it’s a great way to see guys who don’t normally play cricket get back into it.

“The best example is my mate Drew Hall who is crook, but just wants to play. He got a wicket second ball, and just loved being out there. That’s what it’s about.”
