Orange City, Cavaliers and Centrals all lost the opportunity to seal a spot in the final after the heavens opened just after 4pm on Saturday.
Thanks to the washouts, competition leaders Kinross qualify for the final on 23 points and will play second-placed CYMS (21).
Orange City also finished on 21 points, but thanks to an inferior net run rate slump to third place, missing out. Cavaliers finished fourth on 20 points, while Centrals earned the Limited Overs wooden spoon on 18 points.
The final standings of the Limited Overs Cup reflected the close nature of the 50-over competition. In fact, before the weekend’s washouts all five teams could still have qualified for the final.
At Jack Brabham (2), Orange City was in prime position to score a victory over Centrals and secure a place in the final.
Batting first, Craig Rogan pummelled 72 and Adam Cowden chipped in with 44 to lead their side to 245, bowled out in the 48th over.
Seventeen-year-old seamer Zac Reimer was the pick of the Centrals bowlers, snaring 5-48 from his 10 overs.
In reply, Centrals were 0-32 before rain stopped play.
“It is very disappointing [to be washed out] considering we were in the box seat in such a big game for us, I’m sure the Cavs guys would feel the same way about their game,” Orange City skipper Matt Findlay said.
“We’d have loved a crack in the final but that’s the way it goes, that’s cricket. You can’t control the weather so we just have to cop it sweet.”
At Riawena Oval CYMS star, and 2014-15 run-machine, Dave Neil continued his golden run of form, knocking up 77 in his side’s total of 7-239.
Nick Wright helped out with a handy 40 and skipper Hamish Finlayson compiled a valuable 29 not out.
In reply, Cavaliers sat at 3-54 after 13 overs.
CYMS’ Royal Hotel Cup clash with Lithgow was also washed out yesterday, and alternative dates are being considered to play the game.
