Only one event was postponed on Saturday afternoon due to the stormy weather, the invitational open platform, which was completed early yesterday morning.
“It was just a wonderful weekend,” Diving NSW CEO Gillian Brooker said.
“The competition was very good, there was some very good diving, and the come and try sessions we held on the Friday and Saturday also went very well.
“We even had a couple of young divers from the Orange area try it out, and then compete in the pathways events.”
Divers from Wagga Wagga, Newcastle, Lightning Ridge, Canberra, Sydney, Albury and Parramatta fought it out in 16 divisions across the one and three-metre springboards and the five-metre platform over the weekend.
The competition came to Orange with one eye on reforming the long extinct Orange Diving Club, and Brooker said after the two come and try sessions, and the championships coinciding with a level-one coaching course, the goal had become realistic.
“The coaching course went very well, we had one young man in particular show interest,” Brooker said.
“He is only 15, and you need to be 16 to legally coach unsupervised. So after he hits 16 hopefully we can get him interested enough to form a club here again.”
“We can’t thank the Orange City Council enough, and the aquatic centre staff, and everyone who was involved. They’ve been wonderful,” Brooker said.
“It’s just a lovely, friendly community and we had such a good time bringing the competition here.”
