DECORATING the house with lights has long been a Christmas tradition for Orange father Craig Murphy, who put up thousands of lights in honour of his father in December.

Mr Murphy’s hard work paid off, winning the judges’ vote in the Central Western Daily’s Christmas Lights competition, which earned him a $100 Bunnings Warehouse gift voucher.
Mr Murphy said his father Noel Murphy, who passed away a few years ago, used to work all year to make Christmas decorations.
“I used to help my father, he built the shapes the lights are on, and I used to put the lights up,” he said.
“He was retired and made the shapes all year, just for Christmas. He lived for Christmas.”
Mr Murphy said he put in extra effort this year for his young sons and said more people came to see his house than previous years because of the Facebook page ‘Orange Christmas Lights Spotting’.
Millthorpe’s Sandra and Robert Job took out first prize in the readers’ vote, and were surprised they were chosen by the public to win a $100 Bunnings Warehouse gift voucher.
“We had a good look at the lights, we thought we were as good as any, but we didn’t expect to win,” Mr Job said, adding the couple had 20 to 30 cars drive down their cul-de-sac each night.
“Next year we’ll have to do something bigger and better. We’re thinking of hosting a street party next year.”
Second place in the judge’s vote went to Tahlia Hartin, while second place in the readers’ vote went to Grace and Toby Dickinson, who won a $50 Bunnings Warehouse voucher each.
Close to 500 votes were received in the competition.
