Making his first grade debut for the Warriors Shah spun up a storm, snaring 5-49 from his 10 overs to take his overall wicket taking tally to 33 so far this season - across three grades.
“Riawena is hardly a spinner’s paradise either,” Orange City captain Matt Findlay said.
“But he got some unexpected grip and bounce out of a pretty lifeless deck, and his length and flight were bang on.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the way he performed on Saturday.”
After winning the toss and batting first on a low, flat Riawena deck Orange City piled on 241.
Findlay (47) and Jason Beasley (8) added 39 for the first wicket before the former combined with Shaun Grenfell (33) to add another 69 for the second.
With the score at 2-108 from 20 overs the Warriors were looking at a big score, but Kinross’ slower bowlers pegged the greens back, taking regular wickets through the middle order.
In reply the students got off to a similar, albeit slightly slower, start to Orange City and sat encouragingly at 1-92 after 25 overs, before star batsman Charlie Litchfield was dismissed for 53 - the first of Shah’s wickets.
The Warriors’ mystery spinner then proceeded to take Kinross’ middle order apart dismissing Sam Nicholls (24), Charlie Mortimer (10), Andrew Johnson (6) and Charlie Greer (0) to claim his first top grade bagful, with the students eventually finishing at 7-190 from their 50 overs, with 14-year-old Fletcher Rose finishing 47 not out.
“The game faded away toward the end,” Findlay said.
“Kinross stuck it out, but I can’t say they were really trying to win the game. I imagine they were using it as a bit of practice for their school competitions.
“Young Rose batted well at the end though, and he bowled well. It was a good win for us, it sets us up going into next year.”
