Police allege the man also struck a second woman with the car.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Dave Harvey said the 22-year-old woman sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Paramedics were called to the scene and took both alleged victims to Orange Health Service.
Inspector Harvey said he believed the woman, who was dragged underneath the car, had surgery, while the second victim discharged herself from hospital.
A hospital spokesperson said the 22-year-old was in a stable condition on Saturday afternoon.
“The crash investigation unit from Sydney attended the scene this morning [Saturday] and have taken over the investigation,” Inspector Harvey said.
“It is alleged he reversed a vehicle out of a driveway and collided with a female. It appears the victim has been dragged under the car for a short period.
“He then drove forward, releasing the victim.”
Police arrested the man but he was later released pending further investigations.
