Canada awaits Cavaliers all-rounder Josh Doherty, who will play his last game for season 2014-15 against Centrals today.
“I’m heading to Canada for a few months, and then maybe Europe,” he said.
“I bought a one way ticket, I just want to see more of the world really.”
Despite admitting he is “dead keen” to start his trip, Doherty admitted he will miss playing for Cavaliers in the Orange District Cricket Association first grade competition.
“I feel a bit bad really, I’m leaving the boys in the lurch a bit,” he said.
“I’ll miss cricket massively, but I’m so keen to get over and do my own thing for a while.
“This being my last game for the season, a win would make it pretty special.”
Second-placed Cavaliers take on last placed Centrals today at Wade Park in the second round of the 50-over Limited Overs Cup. Despite Centrals remaining winless after four rounds of the summer, Doherty said his side will treat the red and blacks no differently to any other team.
“They’re massively underrated,” he said.
“They’ve got some seriously good cricketers and I think they’re at full strength [today]. It won’t be easy out there.
“If they’re on Centrals are very hard to beat, so we really need to hit our straps out there.”
Cavaliers will be without spinner, and club stalwart, Brad Wright for the clash. The maroons are coming off a “towelling” at the hands of CYMS last weekend, and Doherty was lost for words when speaking of the thumping.
“I really don’t know what happened, other than CYMS bowling really well,” he said.
“I think, a lot of it was not placing enough value on our wickets. If we can do that today, and stay a bit more positive in the field then I think we should be okay.”
Play starts at Wade Park at 11am.
