But he needs to take a careful review of the habits of those pedestrians.
The refuges on Byng St, Peisley St and Sale St were all built with the best of intentions and presumably much expense. But stand and watch for a few minutes and you will see people ignore them completely and jaywalk across the streets, avoiding having to go four or five metres away from their perceived shortest distance between two points.
A town council can work hard for the safety of its citizens but cannot control human nature.
Of course, this suggestion was generated by the ongoing lack of decision about toilets in Robertson Park. For goodness sake, revamp the existing bock adjoining the CWA rooms and solve the problem for good. The plumbing is already in place.
This solution would leave the rest of the park free for all the other interested parties and would presumably cost less than an entire new block.
