In the past three years money raised from gate takings at the New Year’s Eve party at Waratah Sports Club has provided the hospital with heat lamps for the emergency department for babies that come in with low body temperatures and burns patients who lose body heat rapidly.
Midwives also received equipment including transportable baby scales and maternity charts for antenatal and post-natal care and home visit check-ups.
An anaesthetic training kit has also been bought to use with simulated patients.
Hospital staff also have a wish list for next year that includes a falls prevention rehabilitation course for patients, a second stage recovery chair for patients, iPads to help clients with self management of their health in the community.
Peter McCormack launched the New Year’s Eve fundraising party a few years ago and visited the hospital on Thursday to see where previous donations have gone and to see demonstrations of some the equipment and training tools in use.
“A lot of people don’t realise the equipment is still needed even though its a new hospital,” Mr McCormack said.
Director of Nursing Sue Patterson said she has been delighted by the donations that have come in each year and they have gone a long way to improving patient comfort and treatment.
