The City of Orange Brass Band, conducted by Josie Lyner, the Orange Regional Conservatorium symphony orchestra, the Conboyz, combined choirs and soloist Samantha Bartholomeusz performed an hour and a half of carols in unusually chilly conditions.
Brass band publicity officer John Moss said the numbers were higher than expected considering the weather.
“Overall, the band was delighted with the attendance, the grassed area was pretty packed,” he said.
“It was a varied program and it provided lots of opportunities to sing along with well-known Christmas carols.
“The acoustics in the forecourt area are very good, so it was a fantastic atmosphere.”
Backing up yesterday to perform at Cook Park, Mr Moss said Christmas was the brass band’s busiest time of year.
“It’s a highlight for us,” he said.
“You can’t beat a brass band for Christmas carols.”
