DESPITE circulating rumours about nominating for the seat of Calare at the next federal election, Paralympian Kurt Fearnley says it is not on the cards.

Mr Fearnley said he had previously been “offered roles”, but did not detail what they were or who they were from and ruled out the 2016 election.
“I’m racing full time, I’m on half a dozen boards and I’ve got a young family,” he said.
“I’ll be in Rio [de Janeiro] at the next election. I’ve been racing wheelchairs for 20 years and I’m not finished where I’m meant to be.
“If I was [to consider it], the reality is it would be many, many, many years away.”
Mr Fearnley said, for the moment, there were other ways he could make a difference without entering politics.
“I would prefer to play a role outside the political arena,” he said.

However, he said changes were needed in the field of disability.
“The NDIS is an amazing piece of legislation and a lot of community changes will be needed,” he said.
“The majority of developed nations have a disability transport act. That would be a good thing to achieve.”
