And, as cliched as it is, the key is partnerships.

So, at Wade Park today, when Centrals resume at 1-13 with CYMS’ 3-291 declared first innings total in sight, not out man Dean Turner has one thing in mind, however predictable that might be.

“I think it’s just about batting in partnerships,” Turner said.

“That’s the biggest thing. I know in previous games we’ve just lost wickets at bad times, and in clumps, so if we can avoid that then hopefully we’ll put ourselves in a good position.

“We’re strengthened with (Max) Dodds and (Nick) Dunlop back, but you can’t bat thinking the next guy in will do the job. 

“You’ve got to go out there thinking it’ll be you to get the runs.”

CYMS’ total was morphed largely due to Dave Neil’s knock of 156 not out.

Centrals too need someone to be a mainstay in its batting innings, one that’ll have the benefit of not having to face Western Zone Englishman Curtis Free.

“I’m hoping it’s the same wicket,” Turner added.

“I’d say Al Dhatt will bowl a lot of overs and he’s getting wickets like he does every year.”
