I THINK I was probably too polite in my earlier submission (on constructing public toilets in Robertson Park) and had assumed that the mayor and others would ensure that this ludicrous proposal would never see the light of day .... how wrong I was!

This council has held up the architecture at 60-62 McNamara Street (McNamara House) as something which the city is proud of, yet this proposal seeks to build public toilets right in front of that building, eroding public use of the park and its existing beauty and thereby acting as a 24-hour magnet to undesirables not 30 metres from a private hospital!
It wasn't all that long ago that the operator of the Parkview and the council used overnight sprinklers to remove undesirables from this park.
This proposal (strongly opposed by myself, Legacy, the Parkview Hotel, the operators of the private hospital, and Baldock, Stacey and Niven) would see a return to all those problems and more.
The property owners (and substantial ratepayers) adjoining the park don’t want a bar of this madness so who is behind the proposal? Call a public meeting on site and let the proponents hear the depth of discontent from those who will be immediately impacted.
Finally, if toilets are your council’s “go” build them adjacent to the taxi rank or open the CWA building ... they don't pay rates, they rarely use the building except to hire it to others and so their facility is doing nothing for the general populace other than rotting in the breeze.
I say again and loudly to this council wake up to yourselves, this idea is a complete nonsense and should be immediately consigned to file 13 (the bin).
