Among the 20 dancers from the school who passed the auditions for the nationally-televised dance show will be eight girls who will take part in an Aboriginal dance ensemble as well as a combined dance group.
Teacher Tamise Blowes introduced the students to the School Spectacular and said it would be a great experience for the dancers, from years 8 to 11, some of whom she said had never been to Sydney before.
“I was a part of the school spectacular through Orange High School for three years,” Miss Blowes said.
“I started an Aboriginal dance group [at Canobolas high school] and thought it would be a good idea to audition.”
Miss Blowes said the Aboriginal dance ensemble would spend a week in Sydney learning a combination of traditional and contemporary dance moves with students from as far as Bourke for their joint performance.
Amanda Hurford will take the combined dance group to Sydney on Tuesday for their rehearsals.
