The Orange tenpin bowler made a quick trip home after the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) World Series of Bowling (WSOB) before heading to Japan for his next event.
Belmonte said, despite not having long enough with his family, he was keen to bowl in Japan.
“I feel good. Didn’t have much time at home though to relax. There was only 36 hours between flights but travelling is something I’m used to,” Belmonte said.
“I’m excited to play in Japan again though. I love this country and the people are so respectful and polite.”
Belmonte may not have won a title in the WSOB but he was the only bowler to qualify in the top 24 on all five lane conditions.
The 31-year-old said that shows how well he is bowling at the moment.
“I’ve had a great year and as far as I was concerned, the WSOB was successful,” he said.
“Not in the fact that I won, but in the fact I was the only player who had a chance to win on all five oil patterns. I was the only player to make the finals in all the events.
It is because of this strong form Belmonte is determined to win in Japan.
“My goal is the TV show. Make the top eight and then once I do that, I’ll look for the win,” he said.
Players have official practice on Wednesday before the competition gets underway on Thursday.
They will bowl 10 qualifying games and after this the top 64 move into the match play rounds.
They will play a best-of-five-games match play elimination until they get down to the last eight.
The final eight will then play a stepladder final which will be televised in Japan.
Belmonte won’t have an easy time of it with a strong field of PBA players, including Wes Malott, Mika Koivuniemi and Pete Weber, also heading to Japan.
The Orange bowler has, in the past, not enjoyed the match play format but he said that’s changing.
“I think my status as the best player in the world helps give me an advantage rolling into a match mentally against the other players,” he said.
Belmonte will start qualifying at 11am on Thursday (AEDT).
