Ms Bolton was inspired to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation by shaving her hair, after a close friend from Sydney, Anna-Marie Orchard, died a few weeks ago after a long battle with breast cancer.
“She was first diagnosed 10 years ago and had a mastectomy, but then about three years ago the cancer came back,” Ms Bolton said.
“She was doing really well for most of the time, but in the end there, in the last six months, she just went gradually downhill. It spread to her bones and everything.”
Ms Bolton’s fundraising headshave event will be held from 5pm on November 14 at Orange Waratah Sports Club, with a raffle and auction to kick festivities off before the clippers come out.
Ms Bolton hopes to raise $2000 on the night, but says people can also donate by getting in contact with her via her email melbolton@outlook.com.
“I’ve always had long hair, and it’s something that I like about myself,” she said.
“I spent 13 years working as a hairdresser, so people have always commented on my hair.
“It’s going to be strange not having it anymore.
“[Anna-Marie] would be very proud, she’d be very humbled, I think.”
