The man entered the front door of the Telopea Way fast food restaurant at around 12.30am and threatened staff at the front counter before demanding they hand over money.
One of the employees complied with the man’s demand before the thief fled the area on foot, crossing the northern bypass and running into the nearby residential area.
Canobolas Local Area Command duty officer Dave Harvey said police had established a crime scene at the restaurant that was examined by specialist forensic officers yesterday.
Inspector Harvey said an investigation is underway and police are appealing for information.
“We’re seeking information from the general public about anything they may have seen,” he said.
Inspector Harvey said while no one was injured during the incident, staff were shaken by the ordeal.
The man was described as having a fair complexion, 20 to 25 years old, 175-180cm tall, and wearing a grey hoodie jacket with the hood pulled over, a dark bandanna covering his face, navy shorts and yellow gloves.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Orange police station on 6363 6399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
