Ten vastly different gardens, from old established gardens to recently created ones, have been chosen by the Ramble committee to entice an expected 3000 visitors to the village.
Initially the inspiration of Millthorpe woman Gwen Webster and the Millthorpe Garden Club in 2004, committee chairperson John Ash said all gardens offer something different, and said it was pleasing to see such a small event grow significantly.
“It’s extraordinary. It’s such a little event and has grown into such a fantastic experience for people to come out and see the variety of gardens on show,” Mr Ash said.
Every year, a new selection of gardens make up the ramble, and one such garden is Gordon Craig and Virginia DeSantis’s at Millthorpe’s old Baptist church, a quaint cottage garden that was established nine years ago.
Gardens are open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, and cost $5 each to enter, or a $20 weekend-long pass for all 10 gardens.
Mr Ash said money raised this year will help rebuild the Redmond Oval kiosk, which will cost around $130,000.
“We have kept the funds from the past two rambles, and with this year we’ve almost got enough to rebuild the kiosk.”
