Belmonte went into yesterday’s 16 match play games in fifth place on the ladder after 28 qualifying games in Las Vegas.
He climbed to third after the first eight match play games, but then slipped to 12th after the next eight.
The two-handed bowler’s second eight games were inconsistent.
He started well, winning three of his first four games to hold onto third spot.
Something went wrong in his fifth game where he left the first eight frames open and went on to lose to Mike Fagan 268-136.
Belmonte then lost to Martin Larsen 241-192, which pushed to Aussie down to 10th on the standings.
He found some form in his 269-245 loss to Scott Norton before losing his final match to E.J Tackett 228-183.
This meant Belmonte finished 12th on 10073, 95 pins behind fifth-placed Dom Barrett (10168).
“It’s not how we fall. It’s how we get back up that matters!” Belmonte posted on Facebook after the see-sawing day.
American Wes Malott will lead the field into today’s match play games with a 10541 total.
The third and final eight games of match play are scheduled to start at 8am today (AEDT) and finish at 12pm.
After this the top five bowlers will qualify for the stepladder final on Monday (AEDT).
