Belmonte qualified for the World Championship in fifth with a 28-game total of 6380 at Las Vegas.
After this morning's round of match play games, Belmonte had climbed to third with an 8306 total.
American Wes Malott was leading on 8470.
Belmonte lost his first match play game to arch rival Sean Rash 259-244 before toppling Pete Weber and Ronnie Russell.
The Australian suffered back-to-back losses to Malott and Shuichi Heki before recording wins against Eddie VanDaniker Jr and Mike Devaney (290-213).
Belmonte finished with a 255-216 loss to Stuart Williams to finish in third after the opening eight games.
The second block of eight match play games starts at 12pm today (AEDT).
After tomorrow's third and final block of eight games, the top five will qualify for the World Championship final to be bowled on Monday (AEDT).
