With a promise not to turn into a bridezilla, the Canobolas Rural Technology High School teacher has asked her year 11 commercial cookery class and her year 12 food and beverage class to cater for and serve 100 guests at her wedding this weekend.
There was a fair bit of legal rigmarole to navigate through before the 16 students were allowed to cater for the Molong marquee wedding, but, with three days to go, they are excited rather than nervous.
Former students Amber Noon and Brooke Goodacre will finish their Higher School Certificate this week, but will not be out celebrating with their year 12 classmates.
The girls said they would not miss “Miss’s” wedding for anything.
“She’s like a second mum to us. She’s beautiful and she’s always been there for us,” Amber said.
The bride herself said she did not have any reservations about allowing the students to cater and serve because they had done it all before.
“We’ve run our own restaurant out of here, it’s not like it’s new ... I am fairly anal when it comes to safety and hygiene so I’d trust them to do it before I’d trust any other catering company,” she said.
“I have so much confidence in these guys.”
The students will cook a cocktail menu which is Australian and Asian inspired with dishes including prawns, san choy bow, Indonesian meatballs and lamb kebabs.
The students had a few practise runs at the menu and helped Ms Howarth choose the dishes.
They will not be paid for the exercise but the year 11 students are grateful for the work experience and the year 12 students were more than happy to give up their time as a thank you to Ms Howarth for her dedication.
