Orange residents helped Western NSW reach a target of $80,000 through merchandise sales and donations on the day, while  businesses like Bendigo Bank and Camera House decorated their shopfronts in pink.

According to Cancer Council NSW communication and event co-ordinator Emma Ryall, the central west celebrated Pink Ribbon Day a few days before the national day to start the fundraising early and involve as many people as possible.

“We find that Friday is a much better day for many people in regional centres to get out and support us. It’s a lot easier for them than Monday,” Ms Ryall said.

Volunteers manned stalls in Post Office Lane, Orange City Centre, Orange Central and North Orange shopping centre, while roving volunteer Sandy Ostini raised $2500 from selling merchandise, walking around the central business district on foot. 

Ms Ryall said the support from businesses along Summer Street was vital to the success of the campaign.

“Camera House and Bendigo Bank are generally quite supportive of Pink Ribbon Day and other Cancer Council campaigns,” Ms Ryall said.

“Businesses can get involved in a campaign by contacting the local office to organise posters and merchandise to be sold in store. Everything helps.”

Cancer Council NSW has a target to raise $3.66 million across the state for Pink Ribbon Day.
