The sale will enable council to get rid of items that are no longer needed, but could be put to good use by Orange residents.
Council environment and economic development committee chair Neil Jones says the sale coincides with the National Garage Sale Trail, which encourages people around Australia to hold garage sales on the same day every year.
“By bringing the garage sale trail to local residents for the first time, council is making the most of the opportunity to deliver a fun, creative and community-driven program that’s all about recycling,” he said.
“It lets residents and community groups find a new home for their unwanted belongings, live more sustainably by reducing waste and raising money for themselves or others.”
Councillor Jones said proceeds of the council sales would go to a causes including the new Orange Regional Museum and Friends of the Gallery.
Sale items include pre-loved library books, chairs, Christmas decorations and display boxes.
