The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, was employed by an agency that provides services for people with a disability in Orange.
The 45-year-old man did not appear in Orange Local Court on Thursday.
Police allege the man sexually assaulted the woman at a house in Orange between August and October, 2012.
The man is charged with four counts of having sexual intercourse with a person of cognitive impairment.
Due to the serious nature of the charges, as strictly indictable offences, the case is being handled by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
No representatives of the care agency which employed the man were in court, despite being called by the court clerk.
The alleged offender also did not appear.
The case has been adjourned until late next month for legal representations to be made by legal representatives.
