The students chased down 179 two weeks ago to defeat Centrals and open their season with a bang, and today’s opening day of the season’s first two-dayer presents them with a huge chance to set themselves up for a second consecutive win.
In stark contrast to Kinross’ blockbuster win, Orange City produced one of its worst performances in recent memory against CYMS two weeks ago.
“Confidence isn’t exactly high at the moment,” Warriors’ skipper Matt Findlay said.
“And Kinross will have plenty of it I’d imagine, they had a cracking win two weeks ago. Honestly, we still have a few players out, so I think Kinross probably enter this game as favourites.
“We have a good record against them, so we know we can win it’s just a matter of putting in a decent performance. We’re going back to basics, value our wicket, build pressure with the ball and take our chances.
“Hopefully we can get ourselves in a good position leading into day two next weekend.”
Kinross’ star opening batsman Charlie Litchfield confirmed Findlay’s speculation.
“Yeah that win did give us a lot of confidence, mainly to know that we can bat that well,” he said.
“We started the season well last year as well, but fell off a bit. It’s good to know we have those guys standing up and taking a bit more responsibility than in the past.”
Litchfield said Orange City presents a much tougher prospect than Centrals, adding his side needs to focus on batting for time in the longer form.
“I think we’ll be in for a much tougher time against Orange City, even though Centrals had a good side, mainly because it’s two-day cricket now,” he said.
“I know we can get the job done with the ball, we just need to hold up both ends and bat for a long time to give ourselves the best chance possible of grabbing another win.”
Play starts at Wade Park at 1pm.
