BRIAN Whitton will spend the next six months behind bars after he committed a string of offences including assaulting a woman, possessing drugs and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The 30-year-old was on a suspended jail sentence at the time of the assault and breached an apprehended violence order that was designed to protect the victim.
When a person commits a crime while serving a suspended jail sentence the full sentence must then be served in custody.
He was represented in court by solicitor Bob Lulham, who said his client had never been in jail, despite his criminal history, and was doing all he could to address his drug habit.
“His family is here in support of him ... he’s been in custody since the date of his arrest,” Mr Lulham said.
According to police facts, the Currong Crescent resident grabbed a woman by the hair and threw her to the ground late last year.
Police went to his home to speak with him, however, he escaped by jumping the back fence and leaping into multiple backyards. He was eventually found hiding in a laundry.
Police located a pipe in his pocket used to smoke methamphetamines, or ice.
“He has a long history, but one of the things most notable, he has never had a sentence of full-time imprisonment,” Mr Lulham said.
However, after the magistrate, Terry Lucas, handed down his sentence, Whitton will not be eligible for release until April 2015.
“I hope you never get to see me again, “ Mr Lucas said.
