The overall record was set in 1997 when teams scored 44 goals across 12 games.

In other results, Barcelona beat Ajax 3-1 and FC Schalke 04 edged out Sporting Lisbon 4-3.

FC Porto saw off Athletic Bilbao 2-1 while Manchester City drew with CSKA Moscow, 2-2.
