Kennedy took 4-15 as Wanderers restricted the red and blacks to 8-77 from their 20 overs, with gun batsmen Will Richard (29 not out) the only one to offer any real resistance.

In reply, Sharp finished 42 not out to help his side pass the meagre total just three wickets down, despite Centrals firebrand Pat Russell taking 3-18.

Gladstone also recorded a convincing win on Saturday, at Wade Park, over a strong Orange City side.

After posting 6-126, mainly thanks to a 45-run sixth wicket stand between Brad Cotter (46 not out) and Mick Sullivan (30) Gladstone restricted Orange City to 6-107, which included a well-constructed 46 from Novocastrian recruit Ben Jonas.

In Saturday’s other games Michael Hannelly (40 not out) led CYMS (3-117) to an easy seven wicket win over Cavaliers (111), while Kinross thumped Waratahs by 107 runs at Riawena Oval.

After posting 158 from its 20 overs, with Fletcher Rose (32) top scoring, Joseph Thomas (5-12) snared a bagful as Waratahs was rolled for just 41.

Centenary Cup also held the opening round of its Twenty20 competition on Friday and Saturday night at Wade Park.

KWS Young Guns scored a win over Cavaliers on Friday night before CYMS Kellys overcame Waratahs by six wickets.

Waratahs could only muster 5-90 on the batsman-friendly Wade Park deck, with Tom Denning (2-15) and Zac Rosser (1-17) in particular heaping pressure on the sky blues.

Luke Kilkeary then made sure his side had every chance of passing the total early with a quick-fire 23, before Cameron Thomas finished the job with 34 not out.

Orange City and KWS 3rds also clashed in Centenary Cup, but played a regular round game at Kinross Main.

Cayden McGrath (42 not out) and Billy O’Connor (40) were the only two students to pass double figures, helping their side to 133. Nathan Potts was the pick of the Warriors’ bowlers, taking a spectacular 5-34.

The total turned out to be more than competitive as Orange City could only muster 116 in reply, with Dave Crombie (20 not out) top scoring.
