Owners James and Gail Kendell were also awarded two best in class awards for their Pomona Ice 2012 and their Pommeau 2009, a fortified cider.

Mr Kendell, who is also the cider maker, said his product was benchmarked against both the cream of the crop in Australia, as well as international brands.

“Given we were up against some very smart product, including internationals, we’re proud of our effort,” he said.

Mr Kendell said Orange was the perfect climate to grow cider apples.

“Orange built its name on apples and we enjoy the perfect climate mix of cold winters, warm summers and cool evenings during the ripening season,” he said.

“Add to this the red basalt soil, that famous elevation and good site selection and you have a match made in heaven.”

Mr Kendell said he’s pleased his company has come a long way in a small amount of time.

“Day-to-day we’re just focused on producing the best and purest handmade cider money can buy, but the awards are a nice reminder we’re on the right track,” Mr Kendell said.
