The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 is expected to jump 68 points (1.30 per cent) on Monday morning, according to the SPI Futures for December.

The ASX 200 rose 0.3 per cent on Friday to close at 5271 points.

This week, three key inflation prints will be released by Australia, New Zealand and the US. Australia's quarterly inflation data is expected to show price pressures in goods and services have hardly changed, which will only reinforce the view that the official cash rate will remain on hold at 2.5 per cent for the foreseeable future.

The economics team at National Australia Bank expects inflationary pressures to remain benign and the headline consumer price index (CPI) to be flat in the third quarter, lowering the annual rate from 3 per cent to just 1.9 per cent.

Global central banks cut policy rates to record low levels after the financial crisis in an attempt to stimulate their economies and to make their currencies more attractive. The RBA last cut the official cash rate to 2.5 per cent in August last year and it has remained that this level ever since.

The US, Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom all have rates near zero per cent. New Zealand has rates sitting at 3.5 per cent because its economy is growing faster than many other developed nations.

Former PIMCO chief investment strategist and now chief economic adviser to Allianz, Mohamed El-Erian, said in The Financial Times, that speculation was growing in the market that the Fed could delay the end of its program or announce more stimulus.

But he said further quantitative easing (QE) mark 4, while "understandable" would be "misguided" and that a more holistic approach, which involves more action by the US government, is what is needed to help the US economic recovery to "attain escape velocity".

Last week Reserve Bank of Australia assistant governor Guy Debelle warned that volatility would escalate and that market liquidity was now "structurally lower" than it had been previously.
