This was rejected outright.
Then I suggested a mailbox in the shopping centre large enough to take small parcels, again rejected.
Then I suggested a mailbox in the vicinity of the shopping centre, again rejected with the explanation that there were adequate post boxes in Orange to meet the falling demand.
I pointed out the distances that the existing boxes were from north Orange, again no action.
It would appear Australia Post are going to let the mail system die without a fight.
