A session will be held this Wednesday at Orange City Council chambers for residents to have their say on public spaces, including parks, playgrounds, and Orange's footpath and cycleway network.
According to a 2009 resident survey, playgrounds, neighbourhood parks, public toilets and the management of creeks and waterways received low satisfaction scores, while residents were satisfied with tree planting programs and street beautification.
Councillor Neil Jones, who is part of the reference group working on the project, said the council had previously created several management plans, but had never considered Orange's outdoor environment as a whole.
"We've got to identify the gaps - have we provided for an ageing population? Have we got enough seats and walking trails for people who are ageing or disabled?" he said.
"All these things are going to be looked at."
Cr Jones said in reviewing Orange's open spaces, the council could also consider acquiring additional areas.
Cr Jones encouraged anyone with a passion for the outdoor environment to attend the workshop, especially if residents felt that the footpath network near their houses could be improved.
Feedback will be used to create a strategic plan for the next 25 years and priorities will be identified for funding in future budgets.
Participants must register by calling Georgina Lee on 6393 8206 or emailing glee@orange.nsw.gov.au.
