According to the NSW Regional Islamic Centre’s website, the group is currently trying to raise funds to buy a property at 344A Peisley Street, which is on the market for $399,000.
The building is already an approved church in a general industrial zone.
The group has held prayers at the Senior Citizens and Pensioners’ Centre in Orange, however a representative from the group did not return a Central Western Daily journalist’s calls.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Layton has applied to build another place of public worship in north Orange.
To be located at 46 Moonstone Drive, the single-storey building would be 311 square metres, including a hall, male and female toilets and a foyer with 28 parking spaces.
According to the development application, four congregations would be held each week, however the faith was unspecified.
The Moonstone Drive proposal is currently on public exhibition, with submissions closing at 5pm on Wednesday, October 8.
The proposal can be viewed at the Orange City Council chambers.
