A number of years ago Orange City Council staff painted a 1.5 metre white line on the northern side of the entrance to the Sale and Anson street car park and called it a footpath.

No rail to protect the users from the traffic. Besides having a rough join down the middle there were holes inspection pits and very rough spots making it very hard to use.
I brought this to attention of council staff a number of times and early this year they made a commitment to overcome the problem in March when they were resealing the entry. Eventually the entry was resealed in late April however the seal only went halfway over the designated footpath area leaving the join and rough spots and only half a path forcing pedestrians to walk unprotected on the new surface with the traffic as there is no designated footpath.
However across the other side of Sale Street on the upgraded Summer Centre site the developer had to install a two metre wide fully protected walkway to Sale Street with hand rails and wheelchair accessories, also contribute to a safe crossing to Sale Street.
Why the difference? Council staff haven’t replied to my letter of two months ago asking this question.
